ACT Season Cancellation FAQ

Ever since the COVID-19 pandemic struck, we have worked hard to find a pathway to produce our milestone 55th Mainstage season. However, after very careful consideration of many factors, we made the determination that none of the scenarios we modeled are feasible.
Restrictions on large group gatherings will be in place for the foreseeable future. As a result, we are unable to safely welcome our subscribers, donors, patrons, artists, artisans, crew, staff and volunteers to our very intimate space. Furthermore, keeping social distancing guidelines means we cannot hire actors, production artists, directors, designers or rehearse — all of the things essential to our ability to create and produce live theatre.
We were very much looking forward to bringing you Sweat, The Effect, Choir Boy, The Laugh Track and Witch to you this season.
There may be opportunities to produce the world premiere of The Laugh Track in the future. Otherwise, so much of what ACT plans for the stage is “of the moment” and next season’s show schedule is difficult to predict at this time. While the works we had planned in 2020 are incredible plays, these selections may not be the stories we tell next year. We’ll keep you posted and announce future programming plans as soon as we can.

ACT will share plans for A Christmas Carol and holiday programming later this summer. We are narrowing in on what the options and alternatives are.

As we look to the future, we hope to be able to welcome audiences back to our theatre in the spring of 2021. We anticipate being able to make a 2021 season announcement this fall, once we have more confidence the time is right and more certainty about being able to gather for live, in-person theatre.

While we are taking a break from on-site programming, we look forward to welcoming you back to ACT just as soon as it is safe for us to gather and celebrate together. Until then, we are developing ACT digital content you can experience from home.

Ticketholders received an email with additional instructions. We hope you will consider donating the value of your ticket(s) back to ACT. Choosing to donate your ticket value will help to sustain our theatre through this difficult time.

At this time, we are not processing renewals for the 2021 season. Because of this, we cannot move your tickets into the next season. However, you can convert your tickets into a gift certificate and then use that gift certificate when renewing your subscription.
With the cancellation of our 2020 Season, we hope you will consider donating the value of your 2020 season subscription package and/or the value of your tickets back to ACT. Making this tax-deductible gift will help fund the artists and theatre you love.
Choosing this option will help to reduce the serious financial impact this season cancellation will have on ACT and to ensure that we emerge healthy and strong once we can reopen.
If your ticket value donation is more than $100, you will receive opportunities to engage with the theatre in new ways, as a member of ACT’s Partner Circles, with many benefits including behind-the-scenes tours, tech talks and more.
If you are a first-time donor, the value of your tickets or subscription will enroll you in the corresponding ACT Partner Circles level.
If you are a current donor, the value of your tickets or subscription can upgrade your Partner Circle membership to a higher level, but will not renew your membership.
For any additional questions about making a gift to ACT or donations, please contact development@acttheatre.org.
