Costume Design
Every garment that appears on stage at ACT is carefully designed or selected by our talented costume designers. Clothing is essential in conveying period, status, attitude and many other aspects of a character’s persona. By having our costume shop and some stock inventory on-site, our costume designers have the ability to be very nimble and adapt to the needs of the actors and directors throughout the rehearsal process. Recent costume designers at ACT include Marcia Dixcy Jory, Melanie Taylor Burgess, Sarah Nash Gates, Deb Trout and Frances Kenney.
Costume Shop
The costume shop at ACT works year-round to cut, sew, fit, and craft costumes for each play. Occasionally ready-made clothing can be purchased off the rack, but most often, designers imagine clothing that is best tailor-made for each performer. During the run of a play, the wardrobe personnel work backstage with the cast to maintain the intentions of the final costume design and to clean, press, and mend every garment and wig that appears onstage.
